Outgoing Links Reveal Internal Blog

One of the major sports brands will use blogs as a part of their event strategy for World Cup 2006 .

How do I know that? Well, the project group at their marketing firm (a big one) set up an internal project blog and had the good judgement to link to this site... And, voila, there I had their blog URL in my referral statistics.

The group seem conscious about the lack of password protection. The client is always talked about as "the client". But it doesn't require the mind of Einstein to add two and two together. A mention of their own company, a message about on what network server "the brief for the FIFA06 blog" can be found, a quick look at the corporate site's clients list, some other details -- and there you have the conclusion in this post's first paragraph.

Is it true then? Don't know. Heck, it may even be an attempt to see how quickly rumours spread in the blogosphere. But I love football (soccer to you in the US) even more than I love blogs so if it really is true I promise to subscribe.

This long story to make a short point: Don't think you can have an invisible blog with utgoing links. If it is internal, protect it with a password. Internal blogging 101.

I haven't forgotten to link to the blog. I choose not to. If it's a mistake on their part, why rub it in? If they're fooling me, why give them the pleasure...?
